Lacrosse helmets

Getting hit on the head with a lacrosse ball is extremely dangerous as the balls used in this game are usually made out of solid rubber which means that they are everything but soft. Brain injuries can result in death depending on their severity and a hit on the head can cause an extremely severe injury.

Therefore, if men are playing lacrosse an important part of their playing and protective equipment is the lacrosse helmet as otherwise injuries could happen. In women’s lacrosse the helmet is not a mandatory addition as it is for men as the game rules differ a bit for the two genders and the possibility of getting hurt is much lower for women as it is for men.

Lacrosse helmets are built in a way that they cover the back of the head, but do not decrease the players view. Therefore, players quite often also wear protective glasses and sometimes even mouth protection. The helmets are tried to be designed as comfortable and light as possible as the players have to wear them the whole day and if the helmets would be uncomfortable and heavy they offer additional and unwanted stress for the neck and head of the players.
