In lacrosse the ball used is made out of solid rubber. Usually it is white but sometimes also other colours are allowed. According to the rules of lacrosse the ball can be between 7.75 or 8 inches and with the weight between 5 and 5.25 ounces.
The first lacrosse balls ever used in the beginning of the game were made of hair- stuffed deerskin or knotted leather strips. Also in the beginning of the 19th century the similar kind of balls were used. In the early second half of the 19th century the new rubber ball was introduced once the new rules of lacrosse were implemented.
There are two companies that are most widely known for producing lacrosse balls. As the companies are of course each other competition they offer different kinds of designs for the balls as the main characteristics have to be the same for all balls as it is said by the rules of lacrosse.
In the game the home team usually supplies the lacrosse ball and after the game the winning team can keep it. In addition, the home team also has to provide ball persons on the sides of the field to supply the players with a new ball whenever one leaves the court.
