The main requirements for being able to play lacrosse are the following. Lacrosse can be played either outdoors or indoors. In the men’s competition the lacrosse team consists of 10 players. The main target of the game is to get the small ball into the opposition’s goal. The regular lacrosse field is 100 meters long and 54 meters wide. The goals are 1.8 times 1.8 meters and also include netting.
The players are divided into three attackmen, three midfielders, three defensemen and a goalie. The tasks of all of the different types of players are the following. Attackmen try to shoot at the opposition’s goal with the ball. The midfielders also try to accomplish the same thing but also protect their own goal. The defensemen only guard their team’s goal and the goalie stands inside the goal for example like in football and tries to block all of the shots.
All of the players have their own lacrosse sticks with varying length depending on the player. It is extremely important that lacrosse players wear helmets and gloves, usually also elbow pads and rib pads are added. For men, protective cups and athletic supporters are recommended as the ball is quite often in the air and could hit unwanted places.
